Finance Manager – Afrimash

Ibadan, Nigeria (Hybrid) ₦380,000 – ₦450,000/month Reports to: CEO

The Opportunity

Afrimash is driving agricultural transformation through innovation, efficiency, and financial inclusion. As our Finance Manager, you will play a critical role in maintaining Afrimash's financial health, ensuring transparency, compliance, and strategic alignment with our growth objectives.

This role demands a hands-on professional who is comfortable working across budgeting, accounting, financial analysis, and reporting — while providing strategic insight to management. You'll help shape how Afrimash allocates capital, manages costs, and drives profitability across its marketplace operations.

What Success Looks Like

By Month 3:

  • Deliver accurate monthly financial reports and unified budget templates across both business units.
  • Establish structured internal controls for expense management and approvals.

By Month 6:

  • Maintain 100% on-time statutory filings and remittances (PAYE, VAT, Pension, etc.).
  • Implement dashboards for cash flow tracking, margins, and financial KPIs.

By Month 12:

  • Support external audit completion with zero compliance gaps.
  • Achieve measurable cost optimization across key expense lines.

Ongoing:

  • Deliver reliable data and analysis for strategic decision-making.
  • Ensure financial compliance, discipline, and visibility across all Afrimash operations.

Core Responsibilities

Financial Operations & Reporting

  • Manage the end-to-end financial operations of both the Marketplace and Special Projects units.
  • Prepare monthly management accounts, financial statements, and variance analyses.
  • Maintain accurate general ledger, reconciliations, and financial documentation.
  • Ensure prompt processing of accounts payable, receivable, and expense reports.
  • Implement standard operating procedures (SOPs) for financial consistency.

Budgeting, Forecasting & Cash Flow Management

  • Coordinate annual and quarterly budgeting exercises with department heads.
  • Track performance against budgets and provide variance insights.
  • Monitor cash flow, manage liquidity, and project funding needs.
  • Advise leadership on cost control, resource allocation, and investment priorities.

Compliance & Audit Coordination

  • Ensure compliance with Nigerian financial, tax, and statutory regulations.
  • Prepare and submit PAYE, VAT, Pension, and other remittances on time.
  • Liaise with external auditors and regulatory agencies for annual audits and reviews.
  • Maintain proper record-keeping in line with financial reporting standards.

Grant & Donor Fund Management

  • Oversee the financial tracking and reporting of donor-funded projects.
  • Ensure all grants and program budgets meet donor compliance and documentation requirements.
  • Support Afrimash's finance narrative for donor, partner, and investor reporting.

Systems & Process Improvement

  • Implement and manage financial systems and reporting tools (ERP, dashboards, or accounting software).
  • Streamline workflows to improve accuracy, speed, and data visibility.
  • Support automation and data-driven financial decision-making.

Stakeholder Partnership

  • Collaborate with the CEO and department leads on financial strategy and performance reviews.
  • Provide actionable insights to support business decisions, funding, and cost efficiency.
  • Represent finance in leadership meetings, ensuring alignment between financial and operational priorities.

What We're Looking For

Essential Experience

  • 5–7+ years of experience in accounting, financial management, or related roles.
  • Strong knowledge of Nigerian accounting standards, tax regulations, and compliance requirements.
  • Proven experience preparing management reports, budgets, and audits.
  • Hands-on background in both corporate finance and donor-funded projects is an advantage.

Ideal Background

  • Experience in eCommerce, agriculture, or startups with multiple revenue streams.
  • Exposure to both for-profit and impact-driven financial reporting.
  • Familiarity with dual-unit structures (Marketplace + Project/Grant).

Technical Skills

  • Excellent command of accounting and ERP software (e.g., QuickBooks, Zoho Books, or Sage).
  • Strong proficiency in Excel or Google Sheets (pivot tables, dashboards, variance analysis).
  • Ability to design and manage financial dashboards for real-time visibility.
  • Strong analytical and reporting capabilities.
